Is a Clutch Pedal Stuck Down Serious?

How the Clutch Release System Works
The clutch pedal does not act directly on the clutch friction plate. It moves a cable or hydraulic system that operates the release fork or concentric slave cylinder, which then moves the release bearing against the pressure-plate diaphragm spring.

Replacing a pedal spring will not correct a sticking slave cylinder, restricted hose, seized cable or collapsed release bearing. The complete operating path must be checked.

“The clutch does not work” is less useful than recording whether the pedal is soft, stiff, slow, completely loose, temperature dependent or restored temporarily by pumping.
